‘Coz Animals are part of our Environment

Animals are one of the most pertinent resources on this planet and their protection is significant, considering the role they play in our overall existence. Serving them is regarded as serving the nature and treasuring its resources. To impart quality education and train the aspirants of veterinary medicine, Veterinary Council of India conducts All India Common Entrance Examination (AICEE) for admissions to their two degree courses: Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) and Animal Husbandry (AH).

AICEE is usually held in the month of May every year. Aspiring candidates must have at least 50 percent aggregate (40 percent for SC/ST candidates) in Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and English (as per the standards of NCERT or Veterinary Council of India) in 10+2, which could be Higher Secondary Examination or the ISCE (Indian School Certificate Examination) or equivalent examination. Also, candidates appearing for their final exam in the year of application are also eligible to sit for AICEE.

Under age criteria for admissions, candidates must be at least seventeen years of age as on December in the year of application.

Application Procedure

AICEE’s application forms and bulletins are available at all identified branches of State Bank of India or any other scheduled bank. Candidates can also apply online via the Veterinary Council of India’s official Web site www.nic.in/dahd/vci.htm
In Andaman & Nicobar Union Territory, applicants can avail the bulletin and application form from the concerned authorities of Andaman & Nicobar Veterinary Council. AICEE is three and a half hours’ duration exam, which covers Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and English of 10+2 level. The exam has a multiple choice answers’ format.

Conclusion
After completing 5 academic years in BVSc and AH degree courses of study, which also includes mandatory internship of six months, one entitles to become a practicing clinician in the areas of mixed practice, farm animals, equine, small animals, feline, or exotics (pocket pets, reptiles, birds). With specialty training in hand, employment prospects seem to be alluring in as many areas as pathology, toxicology, zoological medicine, and laboratory animal medicine.
Also, one can open his own practice as well as work in public health, aquaculture, or military services.
