Standing all oddities – That’s what hotel management is all about!!!
 
In spite of global recession hitting IT and outsourcing industry of India so severely; its hotel and tourism industry is firmly earning enough revenues to encourage graduates (of hotel management and hospitality discipline) with lucrative job prospects. Also, there has been curriculum development by hotel management institutes to combat terror attacks after bearing blows during infamous 26/11 tragedy. This article offers detailed information about National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology – Joint Entrance Examination (NCHMCT - JEE) 2009 to be held in May’2009.
Hotel industry yields a wide range of employment opportunities and thus, serving the interests of a big number of aspirants willing to enter this industry with global exposure. Managers, chefs, faculty, catering officers (in cruise lines/ships), marketing executives in hotel/multinational companies, managers in Tourism Development Corporations, entrepreneurship ventures, housekeeping, accounting, marketing, and financial management – the list is endless.
The National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT) and Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) conducts this JEE in collaboration for admission to the first year of the 3 year Bachelor of Science Program in Hospitality and Hotel Administration. The Three-Year (Six Semesters) program equips students with all the required skills, knowledge, and attitude to efficiently discharge supervisory responsibilities in the hospitality sector. The program also involves in-depth laboratory work for students to acquire required knowledge and skills’ standards in the operational areas of Food Production, Food and Beverage Service, Front Office Operation, and House Keeping as well as providing managerial inputs in Hotel Accountancy, Food Safety and Quality, Human Resource Management, Facility Planning, Financial Management, Strategic Management, and Tourism Marketing and Tourism Management.
Eligibility Criteria for NCHMCT – JEE 2009
 
Aspirants who have passed 10+2 or an equivalent examination with English as one of the compulsory subjects or appearing in 2009 are eligible to apply for JEE’2009. The qualifying examination could be:
 
Final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by any recognized Central/State Board
Intermediate or two-year Pre-University Examination, conducted by a recognized Board/University
Final Examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defense Academy
General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level
High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University
Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in any foreign country recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to the 10+2 system
H.S.C. Vocational Examination
Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects including English as one of the subjects
3 or 4-year Diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education
 
For candidates from General, OBC and Physically Handicapped categories, upper age limit is 22 years as on 1st July, 2009, only those whose date of birth falls on or after July 01, 1987 are eligible for NCHMCT – JEE 2009. In the case of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates upper age limit is 25 years as on 1st July, 2009, only those SC / ST candidates whose date of birth falls on or after July 01, 1984 will be eligible NCHMCT – JEE 2009.
 
At the time of admission, all qualified candidates of NCHMCT – JEE 2009 will have to submit a physical fitness certificate from a Registered Medical Practitioner.
 
More than 40 percent seats are reserved for the aspirants belonging to SCs, STs, OBCs, and PH categories in hotel management institutes.
 
Application Procedure for NCHMCT – JEE 2009
 
Application Form and Information Brochure are available at all the branches of nationalized banks and affiliated institutes of hotel management from February 16, 2009 to April 10, 2009.
The Application and Information Brochure can also be downloaded from the council’s Web site i.e. www.nchmct.org.
